# Editor

> Click to edit any element, chat with the AI, edit the code, roll back versions.

Open a page from its site page or at `app.getsite.ai/pages/<pageId>/edit`. The editor shows one page at a time; switch pages from the dropdown in the toolbar.

## Toolbar

| | |
| - | - |
| **Page switcher** | Every page on the site, with its live or unpublished state |
| **History** | All saved versions. Appears once a page has more than one |
| **Source** | Code editor for the page's HTML, CSS and JS. Paid plans |
| **Settings** | [Page settings](/build/pages#page-settings): meta tags, social cards, indexing, password |
| **Desktop / Tablet / Mobile** | Preview widths of 100%, 768px and 425px |
| **Undo / Redo** | Cmd/Ctrl+Z and Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+Z (or Cmd/Ctrl+Y) for manual edits |
| **Preview** | Hides the editing chrome |
| **Share** | Live URL and version, once published |
| **Save** | Writes a new version. Free |
| **Publish** | Copies the saved version to the live site. Shows only after you Save and while the saved version is not live; reads **Republish** after the first publish. Paid plans |

## Edit elements

Click anything on the canvas. A panel opens for that element.

| Element | What you can change |
| - | - |
| Text | Content with Bold, Italic, Link, line break, Clear formatting, **Edit as HTML**, and a free AI rewrite box (**Make changes**) |
| Link | Text, destination, link to another page on the site, open in new window |
| Image | **Browse assets**, **AI generate**, **Crop image**, **Change URL**, **Use placeholder** |
| Video / audio | Source from your uploads or a URL, size, autoplay, loop, muted |
| Icon | Icon search and animation |
| Form, input, select, list | Fields, placeholders, options, items |
| Section, container | Child list and **Rewrite with AI** |

Every panel has **Edit raw code** and **Delete element** under the ⋯ menu. Changes preview live. **Save** in the panel commits them to the canvas as one undo step. **Discard** reverts.

Keyboard: Esc deselects. Arrow keys move to the parent, first child, previous or next sibling.

### Sections

**Sections** in the bottom bar lists the header, navigation, every section and the footer. Pick one to select it. **Rewrite with AI** replaces the whole section from a prompt for 10 credits. It always runs on Opus 5.5; the chat's model picker does not apply.

## Edit with AI

The chat in the bottom-right corner is the AI Developer. Describe a change in plain words. The reply streams edits straight onto the canvas and saves one version when it finishes. Chips on the reply show what changed (Page, Styles, Script) and an **Undo** chip restores the previous version.

* Select an element first to limit the edit to that section. If the change needs code outside it, the AI widens to the whole page. Clear the chip to edit the whole page.
* Attach up to 4 images (paperclip, paste or drag). Messages can be up to 10,000 characters.
* When the page needs a photo, the AI inserts one from Unsplash on its own.
* The chat cannot publish, add pages, rename, change settings, generate AI images or video, or edit another page. Use the toolbar or a slash command.
* Save or undo your manual edits before sending a message.
* Chats are per page. Start a new one from the chats menu or with `/new`.

### Slash commands

| Command | Does |
| - | - |
| `/image <prompt>` | Generates an image (1 credit) to attach to the next message |
| `/deploy` | Publishes the current version |
| `/undo` | Restores the version before the last change |
| `/restore <n>` | Restores version n |
| `/rename <name>` | Renames the page |
| `/new` | Starts a new chat |
| `/help` | Lists the commands |

### Cost

| | Credits |
| - | - |
| Chat edit | 10, plus 10 per 50 KB of page code. Doubled on Fable 5.1 |
| Chat reply that changes nothing | 0 |
| Section rewrite | 10 |
| Text rewrite (**Make changes**) | 0 |

A typical generated page is 50 to 100 KB, so most edits cost 20 on Opus 5.5. The model picker shows the starting cost (10+ or 20+ per edit); the exact figure depends on page size and is deducted when the reply saves. If your balance is too low, the chat refuses before the AI runs and opens the credits dialog. Pick the model in the chat header: Opus 5.5 (default) or Fable 5.1 (paid plans, 2x).

## Images

**Browse assets** opens four tabs: **Uploads**, **AI Images**, **Stock Images** (Unsplash, free) and **GIFs** (Giphy, free). Uploads accept images, video, audio, PDF and ZIP up to 100 MB.

**AI generate** opens the **AI Image Studio**: a prompt prefilled from the alt text, Square, Landscape, Portrait or a custom size from 256 to 1440 px. Each image costs 2 credits. The chat's `/image` command makes a 1344×768 image for 1 credit.

**Crop image** works on images hosted by GetSite.

## Code editor

**Source** opens the page's HTML, CSS and JS in tabs with **Format**, a split view with live preview and **Reset to original code**. Saving applies the code to the canvas; the toolbar **Save** then writes the version. Available on every paid plan. **Edit raw code** on a single element is available to everyone.

## Versions

Every version is numbered. The toolbar **Save** writes one for manual edits, code edits and section rewrites; an AI chat reply that changes the page saves one on its own. **History** lists them newest first with a screenshot, size, and **Current** and **Live** badges.

* **Preview** opens that version.
* **Restore** makes it the current version. The live site does not change until you publish again. Restore does not create a new version. Save or undo pending canvas edits first; Restore, the chat's **Undo** chip, `/undo` and `/restore` refuse while edits are pending.

## Save, preview, publish

Until you publish, visitors keep seeing the last published version; the page switcher marks this as *unpublished*. `app.getsite.ai/preview/<pageId>` shows the working version with a page switcher and device toggle.

Leaving the editor with unsaved changes asks for confirmation.
